Congress, SAD-BJP made mockery of democracy: Shankar
Ludhiana, September 20, 2018: Aam Aadmi Party Spokesman Mr Darshan Singh Shankar strongly condemned the muscle power used in a big way by both Congress and Akali Dal-BJP to terrorise the voters and booth capturing during the yesterday's elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions and termed it a clear murder of democracy in the state.
In a press release issued here today, Mr.Shankar said that the way ruling party MLAs and other leaders with the help of their musclemen and police, had controlled almost all the polling booths in villages, the polling staff and security personnel had surrendered to let them caste bogus votes at will. He said that the people, who resisted their plan were beaten mercilessly and at some places the goons resorted to firing to create fear.
He added that frequent scuffles were seen at many places on TV channels and henchmen of these parties were caught while casted bogus votes, who were later let off by police.
Mr. Shankar also questioned the State Election for maintaining a studded silence on the large number of complaints against the high handedness of Congress leaders and election machinery before and during the polling. He said that during the whole polling process, the police officers had clearly sided with their ruling Masters and failed to perform their duties impartially and at many polling stations bogus votes were polled and even polling booths were captured in their presence.
AAP Spokesperson further added that with the scuffles and violence the groupism have been erupted in villages, which will further enhance the chances of tension in future. He cautioned the people to beware of the nefarious designs of traditional parties and put a strong pressure to force them to solve the public issues promised during elections.
He demanded that the election commission should call an all party meeting to discuss this serious issue of violence and booth capturing in elections and find out amicable solutions. He also appealed all parties to adhere to the election code of conduct in the future elections to save the hard earned democracy.
