Chandigarh, August 7, 2019: Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Campus, Ludhiana and Panjab University have joined hands to enhance research and academic collaboration for application of Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technology and signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard.

Prof.Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU and Dr.Brijendra Pateriya, Director, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), PAU Campus, Ludhiana signed the MoU in the presence of senior faculty members of Panjab University, Chandigarh including Prof. R.K. Singla, Dean Research, Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Relations, Prof. Rajeev Patnaik, Prof. Simrit Kahlon, Dr. Madhuri Rishi Nee Sharma, Prof. S.K. Mehta, Dr. Mahesh Thakur and Sashikant Sahoo, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (point of contact).

Both the participants of MoU feel there is an urgent need for both the organizations to collaborate in Research & Development in the areas of geospatial technologies (Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS and ICT), surveys, Landslide Hazard Zonation (LHZ) and allied techniques based on expertise and resource availability in the respective institution. Under the MoU, both the organizations by using geospatial technology in natural resource management will help society in better utilization of resources. This also includes collaboration in setting-up and upkeep of the relevant Infrastructure in both the institutions, the spokesman said.

Following the signing of MoU, both organizations discussed the need to develop techniques to mitigate natural disaster in the Himalayan zone. This includes undertaking joint research, participation in Seminars, colloquia and other types of discussions, conduct joint Consultancy and Research projects. There will be exchange of staff between PRSC & PU to pursue Ph.D.’s from PU and internship for students from PU to PRSC.

Giving details of the MoU, an official spokesman said that the main objective of this MoU is the development and validation of sensors for management of soil, water and environment resources.
