Memorial Constructed In Memory Of Anglo Sikh War Martyrs At Aliwal Village

Hambran (Ludhiana), October 6, 2015:  Historical Aliwal village would soon come on the world map as a memorial has been constructed of first Anglo Sikh war of 1846 with a cost of Rs 30 lakh. This memorial and a library has been constructed with the efforts of Dakha MLA Mr Manpreet Singh Ayali. During the first Anglo Sikh war, more than 10,000 Sikhs were martyred at this place. This memorial was inaugurated by Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee president Jathedar Avtar Singh in the presence of Manpreet Singh Ayali.

      While addressing the gathering on this occasion, Mr Manpreet Singh Ayali said that this memorial has been constructed with a cost of Rs 30 lakh on half acre piece of land. He said that this memorial has been constructed using "Chhoti Nanakshahi" brick and an impressive 55-feet high Khanda has been installed there. In the library, several books on history, literature and religion are kept.

      Mr Ayali said that keeping in mind the religious significance of the village, efforts are being made to bring Aliwal on the world map. He said that Rs 35 lakh have already been spent and more development works would be carried with Rs 10 lakh. He said that the road connecting village with Hambran-Sidhwan Bet would be widened to 18 feet and trees would also be planted. He further announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the village.

      Jathedar Avtar Singh lauded the efforts of MLA Ayali for taking personal interest in this memorial. He said that need of the hour is to take care of our buildings with historical significance. He said that the Anglo Sikh war held on January 28, 1846 and with the construction of this memorial, the village would soon be on world map. Jathedar Makkar also announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh from SGPC and Rs 51,000 for books.

      Prominent among those present on the occasion included Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation chairman Mr Amrik Singh Aliwal, SGPC vice president Mr Kewal Singh Badal, Market Committee Mullanpur chairman Amarjit Singh Mullanpur, besides several others.
