Manipal, July 19, 2016: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal (A Deemed to be University) has been accorded the highest rank “A” by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) Bangalore recently. This accreditation is valid for five years. NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country.

A NAAC team consisting of 17 academicians, including vice chancellors, pro Vice chancellors, directors and professors visited the Manipal University campuses in Manipal, Mangalore and Bangalore in May 2016 and assessed the University and its constituent units on the basis of pre-defined criteria like curricular aspects, teaching-learning and evaluation, research, consultancy and extension, Infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, governance, leadership and management and innovations and best practices.

Each criteria has key aspects and NAAC grades the institutions for each Key Aspect under four categories, viz. A, B, C and D, denoting very good, good, satisfactory and unsatisfactory levels respectively.

Dr Ramdas M Pai, President and Chancellor said I am glad the University has secured NAAC “A” Grade. We have never compromised on the need for maintaining excellent standards and this recognition will inspire our University Team to aim at better performances. My congratulations to the Manipal Team.

Reacting to the news, Dr H.Vinod Bhat, the Vice Chancellor said; “To be categorized “A” by NAAC is a boost in the arm for Manipal in its relentless quest for excellence. We have now set our targets firmly on global ranking and international accreditations. It also opens up several interesting possibilities for future growth of the University”.

The Vice Chancellor added; “I am pleased with the grading coming close on the heels of other awards and accolades accumulated during the last 12 months. We can now go forward with our plans for the growth of the University like planning for additional campus in India and abroad, expanding our Bangalore campus etc.

“The next two years will see frenetic activities, including the task on hand which is to propel the University into the league table of World Universities. I am confident that the core values attached to our Brand will help us get there,” Dr Bhat said.
Manipal Academy of Higher Education is ISO 9001:2008 & ISO 14001&2004 certified and has won several awards and accolades for its commitment towards quality initiatives across all its processes. The university is also ranked as the best private university in the country by leading national magazines. It also figures among top 200 universities in QS Asia rankings, announced recently. It was ranked in ‘A’ category among the deemed universities by the Dr Tandon Committee appointed by MHRD, Government Of India in 2009.
