Chandigarh November 30, 2016: Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London has awarded prestigious Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) to Panjab University (PU) Professor Dr.Surinder Kumar Mehta.
RSC is world’s leading chemistry community and is working for advancing excellence in the chemical sciences. Prof.Mehta is Professor at PU Department of Chemistry and Director SAIF/CIL/UCIM.
Achieving Fellow status in the chemical profession denotes to the wider community a high level of accomplishment as a professional chemist. Eligibility for Fellow status applies to applicants who are Members of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), with a minimum of 5 years professional experience. In addition, they must have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the chemical sciences; or to the advancement of the chemical sciences as a profession; or have been distinguished in the management of a chemical sciences organization.
In its communication to Prof Mehta, the RSC has appreciated the contribution of Prof Mehta. “The prestigious award is a proof of continuous, sustained professionalism, and inspirational conduct in a professional context. It is a reflection of dedication and enthusiasm”, it further added.
Prof. Mehta is highly active in the significant areas of research like metallosurfactant chemistry, nano electrochemical sensors, synthesis and application of semiconducting nanoparticles and colloidal chemistry that includes noval formations for drug delivery applications.
Prof Mehta is also Coordinator, Chandigarh Region Innovation Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC), Local coordinator MHRD initiative GIAN, Coordinator UGC CAS and Chief Editor Panjab University Research Journal (Science). Dr. Mehta has more than 236 publications in international journals of repute with h-index of 30, i10 99 and is an author of about 10 books/chapters. He has been nominated as member of several DST, CSIR and UGC national committees.
Prof Mehta is receipt of renowned DAAD and JSPS fellowships several times, Bronze medal from Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), authors award by Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Haryana Vigyan Ratna award and Prof. W.U. Malik Memorial Award of Indian Council of Chemists (ICC) for the year 2015 for his outstanding contribution in research. He has been a visiting scientist to several countries including UK, Germany, Japan, USA and France.
Prof. Mehta has guided 10 post-doctoral, 30 Ph.D. and 40 Master students. He has completed/completing 5 DST; 4 CSIR; 6 UGC, 2 Indo-German and one Indo-Japan Research/Exchange projects. He was lead Coordinator from India for one training school on Waste water Treatment at University of Hull, UK sponsored by DST/British Council under Newton Bhabha Fund (2016).
