LUDHIANA NEWS -- TWO NOMINATIONS EACH CANCELLED FOR ZILA PARISHAD & PANCHAYAT SAMITI ELECTIONS

WITHDRAWAL OF NOMINATIONS ON SEPT 11, VOTING ON SEPT 19 & COUNTING ON SEPT 22: ADDITIONAL DISTRICT ELECTION OFFICER

Ludhiana, September 10, 2018: Additional District Election Officer cum Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr Shena Aggarwal today informed that the scrutiny of nomination papers for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections was carried out today, after which two nominations each have been cancelled for two zones each of Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections.

Now, 94 nominations for Zila Parishad and 757 for Panchayat Samiti have been found to be correct.

She informed that the nominations cancelled for Zila Parishad election include that of Mr Mewa Singh of Aam Aadmi Party from Zone Hambran and of Mrs Karamjit Kaur of Indian National Congress from Zone Heran. Similarly, the nominations cancelled for Panchayat Samiti election include that of Mr Akashdeep Lamba of Indian National Congress from Panchayat Samiti Jahangirpur under Ludhiana-2 and of Mr Jaswinder Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) from Panchayat Samiti Kot Gangu Rai.

Dr Shena Aggarwal informed that the Withdrawal of nominations can be done up to 3:00 PM on September 11, 2018 and the symbol allotment would be done immediately after that. She stated that the polling would be held from 8 am to 4 pm on September 19, 2018 and the counting of votes would be done on September 22, 2018.

Dr Shena Aggarwal further informed that about 11,61,000 voters would exercise their right to franchise at 1542 Polling Stations all over the district. Deputy Commissioner cum District Electoral Officer Ludhiana, Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal has directed Police Department to make elaborate security arrangements for free and fair elections. Representatives of all recognised Political Parties have already been briefed about the upcoming elections and the arrangements being made for them by ADC (D) cum Additional District Electoral Officer, Dr. Shena Aggarwal and their cooperation was sought for successful conduct of elections.

She said that all the necessary arrangements like ballot boxes, election material, strong rooms for secure storage of ballot boxes till counting and counting centres have been made by the district administration.
