Ludhiana, July 5, 2018: Meeting the press today at the CPI office Com Amarjeet Kaur, National Secretary, Communist Party of India (CPI) and the General Secretary, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) said in unequivocal terms that the policies of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi have subverted Indian democracy, wrecked its pluralistic culture, undermined the spirit of Indian Constitution, pauperized the workers, vandalized the secular fabric, perpetrated caste apartheid - in essence have brought the nation to the verge of virtual destruction. Therefore, Modi must go; BJP should be defeated”, she said.
“Modi has utterly failed in keeping his election promises that had catapulted him to power”, she said, adding the report card of 4 years of Modi government draws a blatant blank projecting a negative performance in checking price rise, creation of jobs, agricultural growth, industrial growth, unearthing black money etc.
She added the dramatic move of demonetization by Narendra Modi has been a ‘colossal damage’ to Indian economy resulting in closure of several lakhs of Small and Medium Enterprises and loss of jobs to millions of workers.
She said independent surveys have shown that in a span of few months after demonetization about 2 lakh and 34 thousand units closed resulting into loss of 70 lakh jobs. GST further perpetuated the situation. With this flawed GST small traders and business were hard hit. Doles were given to the corporates by reducing their tax slabs; wealth tax was made zero from 5%. Indirect taxes including various types of cess were increased which became a serious burden for common man.
Speaking about agrarian sector she said this sector has further gone into deep crises. Farmers have been cheated on false promises. All the budgets during Modi regime reduced the spending on social sectors like education, health and civic amenities.
“Mr. Modi is the instrument to perpetuate the ideological agenda of RSS. It is this divisive communal Hindutva agenda that is used to polarize Indian masses on the basis of religion. This is dangerous. This has to be fought tooth and nail”, said Amarjeet in the most intense tone of seriousness.
Issues like ‘gharvapsi’, ‘love jihad’ etc. are reflection of Sangh Parivar’s ideological understanding to divide the society, she said, adding b ut the youth in India have begun to reject the Hindutva ideology of RSS BJP combine.
“It is the RSS which is operating the government”, she claimed, adding “Fear psychosis is being used as a weapon.”
Amarjeet emphasized that besides all these the ugliest side of the BJP was its tacit approval to the brutal killings of the innocents in the name of cow vigilantes and the calculated execution of the rationalists like Gauri Lankesh. Obscurantist unscientific ideas are being spread to perpetuate backwardness.
To save Indian democracy from the portending danger of extinction if not destruction, Amarjeet Kaur said that the Communist Party of India has planned a nationwide campaign of “Save Nation; Save Constitution”. Jathas from several corners of the country would be taken out from the month of September and culminate in a massive rally in New Delhi in October. More than one lakh public meetings would be held to mobilize people’s political conscience to translate into votes to defeat Modi’s BJP.
She said CPI will support AITUC’s 40 day campaign programme from August 9th to consolidate the discontent and indignation of the people against the anti people, anti worker policies of the BJP government. The trade unions have been independently protesting against anti-labour stance of the government and codification of labour laws.
The days to come are going to be preparing for the most crucial general elections of 2019, to overthrow the Modi government. Amarjeet said that the CPI will mobilize all the secular, democratic and left forces for the broadest possible opposition to the ruling BJP and defeat it in the elections in 2019.
Com Bant Singh Brar, Punjab state secretary CPI in his address said that the state is witnessing serious law and order problem. Deaths due to drugs are on the rise. The government had come to power in the state on promise to curb this menace but it has in fact worsened. Strict steps need to be taken to curb this menace he said.
