Ludhiana, June 26, 2019: Exhorting the youths to contribute towards the nation building by contributing in mass movement program like DAPO started by Punjab government against the drug menace, Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that the youths have an unbounded potential which can be helpful in wiping out menace completely from Punjab.
In an impressive function held at the Guru Nanak Bhawan here today to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking, Mr Agrawal said that the state government has opened drug de-addiction and OOAT centers for the treatment of the drug dependant youths which have been receiving overwhelming response as 95 percent of them are undergoing treatment in these centers.
He said that theses centres are changing the lives of drug-dependent youths as the treatment is being offered here is helping them to get rid of the Drug Abuse and it has given a new lease of life to them and their families.
The Deputy Commissioner said that with the Punjab Government has created mass awareness about the drug menace owing to which, a large number of youths were shunning this menace and visiting the centres for the treatment.
He asked the media to highlight the success stories of reformed drug dependant youths so that other can follow them. He said that the district administration is also providing employment opportunities by sharpening their skills in various trades being started in the centres.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said that Ludhiana Police has aimed to make 100 villages out of total 290 drug free in next 15 days for which a strategy has been prepared and directions have been issued.
He said that the militancy was eliminated from Punjab by the collective efforts of Punjabis and expressed hope that the Punjabis will wipe out this drug abuse in the same way.
On the occasion, DCP Mr Ashwani Kumar, ADC Khanna Mr Jaspal Singh, SDMs Mr Amarjeet Singh Bains, Mr Amarinder Singh Malhi, ADCP Mr Deepak Parikh and others were present.
