Jagraon/Ludhiana, December 6 2014: The much awaited rural event “International Dairy and Agri Expo” took off today with great fervor. Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat, Chairman,Farmers Commission, Kahan Singh Pannu, MD, Punjab Agro and Balwinder Sidhu, Chief, agriculture inaugurated the expo.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat, Chairman - Farmers Commission said, "PDFA has contributed a lot to Punjab's Agri Economy and their efforts of last 10 years have started yielding results. We can see Punjab soon becoming a major Dairy State and commercial Dairy farming contributing 15-20% of Agriculture economy of Punjab. Punjab Government has initiated new programs to help small dairy farmers with 2-5 cattle. The program is already working in 1600 villages and will soon be extended to 5000 more villages." He again congratulated PDFA to uplift the dairy farmers of state and wished them further success.
Speaking about the purpose of the Expo, Daljit Singh, President, PDFA said, “With the change in times, agriculture has got a setback with the decreasing acreage and production. Dairy farming is an ideal option for farmers to supplement their income by using a small space of their farms. The Indian farmer is very progressive and is adaptive to newer technologies in Agri and dairy farming, which can give boost his income if used optimally. With this Expo we try to educate the farmers on optimal use of technology to enhance the output.”
International Dairy and Agri Expo has become one of the most important dates in the dairy farmer's calendar, combining a comprehensive trade show with an exhibition of top quality dairy and agri products. The show attracts over 250 trade stands from across the world and beyond and with hundreds of high milk yielding cattle this show is the place to be seen and visit. This platform brings together scientists, dairy and agri companies, dairy and agri departments and farmers at one platform to share the know-how and to display the best of products. In its ninth edition, the expo has become a must attend for the farmers from different parts of the country. Over 70,000 farmers from Punjab and 10,000 across the country attend the expo every year. The day one of the three days event witnessed technical seminars organized to equip the farmers with requisite know-how to be successful in the commercial dairy farming. Nright from ew nutrition educated the farmers on the topic “Managing New Born calf – mortality and growth challenges for profitable farming” and Dr.Manoj Bharti & Sami Barakat discussed about "Calf Nutrition" with the farmers.
There was also an Exhibition on Animal Husbandry, Breeding, Production, Nutrition, Product technology, Health Management and Disease control in dairy animals and Dairy Equipment. Prominent companies like Cargill, New Holland, Pfizer, Sonalika, Delaval, Escorts, Claas, PDS, Olmix, Cidlines and Gea amongst others showcased best of their products to facilitate farmers to reap maximum benefits from their commercial dairy farming business and in agriculture. Financial institutions like IDBI, Andhra bank and Co-operative bank also put up stalls to help the farmers avail easy loans to expand their commercial dairy business.
