Jalandhar, December 15, 2018: Students at School of Agriculture of Lovely Professional University have been able to grow a wide and rare variety of Chrysanthemum flowers as part of their academic projects and research works. As per its annual flowers showcasing, the School organized three-day ‘Chrysanthemum Flowers Exhibition’ at LPU campus to share students’ rare achievement with other students and faculty members of different departments. This popular plant of the daisy family was exhibited in brightly coloured ornamental flowers existing in 13 different types of Chrysanthemums. Next to rose, Chrysanthemum flowers are the second most popular flowers in the world.

As a fantastic variety of Chrysanthemum flowers is available during these days of winter season, a large number of participants and onlookers thronged the campus to pay an authentic tribute to nature and its beautiful creation. On this occasion, LPU students were also inspired to adopt medicinal flowers’ growth not only as a hobby but as an entrepreneurial project also. Onlookers liked “Moira, Orange Fair lady, Dream Goosling”, Korean and Japanese variety the most.

Dean Dr Ramesh Sadawarti at the School shared: “Our School of Agriculture has regularly been achieving marvellous attainments since its inception. Only a few days back it has got prestigious ICAR accreditation. Presently, it has organized Chrysanthemum flowers’ exhibition to inspire all to have the country clean and green for the betterment of all.” Dr Ramesh also informed that there are 40 wild species and thousands of varieties of chrysanthemums, which can differ in size, colours and number of flowers per stem. He also shared that chrysanthemums symbolize optimism and joy, and the name "Chrysanthemum" is derived from Greek words ‘Chrysos’ which means ‘Gold’ and ‘Anthemon’ meaning ‘Flower’.
