· Core message of this year’s celebration is that “Pharmacists are medicines experts” · International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) President Dr Carmen Peña messages that pharmacists have extensive expertise to ensure better patient-health Jalandhar, September 25, 2018: Observing the vision of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) & World Health Organization (WHO), the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized World Pharmacists Day-2018 at its campus, today. The global theme celebrated this year is “Pharmacists are medicines experts”. More than 800 LPU pharmacy students and staff-members gathered on a common platform and organized the event by scheduling many interesting and instructive programmes. In fact, FIP encourages pharmacists worldwide to participate in such celebrations every year on 25th September, the day FIP was founded in the year 1912. FIP President Dr Carmen Peña messages world-wide that pharmacists have extensive expertise to ensure better patient-health. The ‘Day’ emphasises that pharmacists are a trusted source of knowledge and advice, not only for patients but for other healthcare professionals. For every patient who walks into a pharmacy, pharmacists ensure that the right medicine is provided at the right dose and in the most suitable formulation. LPU celebrations promoted value in the pharmacy profession and caring for patients’ emerging needs. Budding LPU Pharmacists vowed to follow the ethics as laid by Pharmacy Council of India and to be an integral part of healthcare system. During a symbolic ceremony, senior students welcomed new students by making them wear white-coats, which are symbol of nobility in the pharmacy profession. On this eve, competitions for art & craft for decorative items from waste material, thematic dance, comedy show, short play, slogan writing, quiz competition, poster-making and display of the departmental achievements were also held. LPU Senior Dean Dr Monica Gulati and Guest of Honour of the day, Regional Business Manager at Novartis, Tejinder Singh Nijhawan congratulated LPU pharmacy students & staff members for devising out day-long splendid programmes. Mr Nijhawan advised all to be focused, trustworthy and loyal professional, being always humane in understanding. Sharing his experience, he invoked budding pharmacists to contribute their creative and innovative ideas to meet the organizational objectives, whichever institution they join for working in their career ahead. Dr Gulati expressed that pharmacists’ profession should be boosted up, as this profession is efficient in facing new challenges and changes. Illustrative, pharmacists work with other healthcare professionals to ensure that every individual receives optimal treatment. Moreover, as one of the most accessible health care professionals globally, they use their learning to protect health and prevent illness. One of the participating students, Ranjana shares: “We have understood that our profession is the noblest one. Patients, today, prefer to seek professional help and advice. They include pharmacists in their decisions and expect more than just medicines. As such, we want that the soul of pharmacy should be regularly nurtured and preserved through such celebrations and observations.”
