Chandigarh, September 26, 2018: Dr Indu Pal Kaur, Professor of Pharmaceutics, UIPS, Panjab University Chandigarh is bestowed upon with the Women Scientist Award 2018 by the organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI). The award carries a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000/- and will be formally presented by the distinguished guests at OPPI’s Annual day celebration to be held on October 11, 2018 in the Ballroom of Hotel Taj Lands End, Bandra, Mumbai.

OPPI has instituted this award to recognise excellence in research from Indian women scientists who have carried out original research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. Prof Kaur is an active researcher with more than 25 years of teaching and research experience. Emphasis of her work lies on Industrial and clinical translation of the research produced in her lab.
Last year she transferred three of the technologies developed in her lab to the Industry. She has been granted two Indian and one US patent and has filed 16 patent applications in the past 10 years.
Prof Kaur was also awarded US-Fulbright Professional Excellence Fellowship (FNAPE)’ under which she was a visiting faculty at Rutgers State University, New Jersey for 6 months from November, 2017- May, 2018.

She has produced 2 Post-doctoral fellows, 15 PhDs and 55 postgraduates and is presently an advisor to 8 PhD scholars. She has received funding to the tune of 4.5 crore INR from Government agencies and has a couple of Industrial consultancies amounting to 50 lakh INR. She has served as a consultant and coordinated with more than 10 Pharmaceutical Companies. She has collaborations with scientists across the globe; recently she and her collaborators received research funding from Sing Health Fund-Foundation, Singapore on an ocular delivery project.

She was Director, Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility of Panjab University, from March 2012 to 2015 and Dean - Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, for the year 2017-18.
