Ludhiana, July 12, 2016: Light to moderate rain/thundershowers likely at a few places during next 48 hrs and at many places thereafter, according to Agroadvisory Bulletin issued by PAU, Ludhiana today. Giving warning, it said heavy rain is likely at isolated places on July 14th & 15th. During this period, maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 31-35oC and 22-28oC, respectively. The maximum relative humidity is expected to remain between 64-93% and minimum between 40-80% during these days.
Complete the transplanting of basmati varieties; Punjab Basmati 2, Punjab Basmati 3 and Pusa Basmati 1121 during the first fortnight of July. To check foot rot of Basmati rice, treat the seedling with Bavistin @ (20g) + Streptocycline @ (1g) in 10 litres of water for 6 hours.
As there are chances of rainfall in coming 2-3 days, farmers advised to spray insecticides keeping in view the occurrence of rainfall. If rainfall occurs within 24 hours after spray then repeat the spray. For white fly incidence, when whitefly population reaches 6 adults per leaf in the upper canopy of cotton plants before 10 AM. Spray insecticides preferably before 12 noon or in the evening. Use recommended insecticides like Craze/ Polo 200 g or or Sutathion/ Marktriazo 600 ml or Fosmite/ E-mite/ Volthion 800 ml or Oberon 200 ml per acre. For the control of Jassid in cotton, use Ulala 50 WG @ 80 g/acre or Confidor or Confidence or Imidacel or Markdor @ 40 ml/acre or Actara/Extra super/Dotara/ Thomson (thiamethoxam) 25 WG@ 40 g/acre in 125-150 litres of water. If initial symptoms of Parawilt appeared in cotton, spray the affected plants with cobalt chloride @ 10 mg per litre of water immediately.
The weather is favourable for fruit rot and die back in chilli, for the control of this spray the crop with 750 g of Indofil-M 45 or Blitox in 250 litres of water per acre at 10 days interval during clear days. As rainfall is expected in coming days, farmers are advised to drain out excess water from the vegetable fields. Farmers can increase the interval of irrigations to their orchards. In view of expected thundershowers; farmers can post pone white-wash on the trunks of the trees.
During summer season special care is required for milking animals. Their diet should contain 2-3 per cent more crude protein content and therefore increase 5 to 7 per cent more oilseed cakes in the concentrate mixture. Save the animals from ticks, lice and flies as these parasites cause irritation and spread various diseases. Animal shed should be dry, airy and well ventilated.
