Ludhiana, October 30, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali organised 5 days vocational training under ICAR- 15 Scheme on “Organic farming” at village Ratangarh, S.A.S.Nagar (Mohali). The training programme was organised under the guidance of Dr H.K.Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU and Dr.Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, Training. Around 20 progressive farmers and rural youth took part in this training programme. Dr.Priyanka Suryavanshi, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) and Dr.Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) coordinated this training. Dr.Yashwant Singh discussed prospects of organic farming and organic livestock production in Punjab. Dr. Priyanka shared her expertise about principles and practices of organic farming, use of biofertilisers, NADEP and Phospho compost and green manuring. Farmers were made aware of emerging concept of zero budget organic farming and different weed control methods. Dr. Munish Sharma gave lectures on techniques of cultivation of fruits, solanaceous and root vegetables and cole crops using organic practices. Dr. Harish Srivathsa, Assistant Director, National center of organic farming, Panchkula demonstrated the method of use of waste decomposer in organic farming and also shared his wide knowledge certification of organic produce. Dr. Opinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) from KVK Ropar gave detailed lecture on vermicompost production. Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant protection) shared her expertise on various practices of insect pest management in organic farming.Dr. Randhir Singh, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production)gave lecture on organic milk production.
