Chandigarh, May 23, 2016: A world class Jang-e-Azadi Memorial coming up at Kartarpur near Jalandhar would be dedicated to the nation on November 6, 2016.
This decision was taken during the 7th meeting of the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Foundation presided over by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal here at Punjab Bhawan this afternoon.
The members of the foundation decided to get the first phase of this iconic memorial inaugurated from the Chief Minister during a splendid function to be organized by the state government on November 6.
Meanwhile, the Member Secretary of the foundation and Managing Editor of Ajit Group of Newspapers, Dr. Barjinder Singh Hamdard apprised the Chief Minister and other members present in the meeting about the progress made so far in the different facets of the upcoming memorial. He said almost 70 percent of the civil work has already been completed and the remaining was going on war footing. A brief presentation was made by Raj Rawal, an eminent architect who has been entrusted with the architectural and designing of the project.
Dr. Hamdard also informed in the meeting that a film produced and directed by noted film director and screenwriter Mr. Shyam Benegal highlighting the enormous contribution of Punjabis in the national freedom struggle, has been completed. He also told the Chief Minister that a consultant firm for Interior and Spatial design of Museum Galleries had been hired and entire work for its execution would be handed over to a Mumbai based firm. The entire work was likely to be completed by September 30. Similarly, the work related to laser show has also been allotted to a renowned multi-media firm.
Wrapping up the discussion, the Chief Minister highly complimented Dr. Hamdard for taking special pains and initiative to transform his dream project from the stage of conceptualization to reality. He hoped this unique project first of its kind in India would go a long way to keep our youngsters abreast with the glorious legacy to instill a spirit of nationalism and patriotism amongst them. Mr. Badal further said that SAD-BJP alliance was credited for this rare feat in making our history alive through such monuments like War Memorial Amritsar highlighting various watershed moments in the pre and post Independence of Indian freedom struggle.
Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting including Rajya Sabha Members Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Mr. Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Cabinet Minister Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, former Ministers Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan and Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Advisor to CM Mr. Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Principal Secretary to CM Mr. SK Sandhu, Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs Mrs. Anajali Bhawra, CEO Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Foundation Mr. Vinay Bublani and Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. KK Yadav.
