Infosys to run Daimler's European data centres

Bangalore, July 24 (IANS) Indian IT bellwether Infosys Ltd has entered into a multi-year deal with German automotive major Daimler AG to manage its infrastructure services and data centres in Europe.

"We have completed the transition to take over the operations of Daimler's European data centres and provide e-collaboration and middle ware services," the global software major said in a statement here Thursday.

Infosys will deliver the services remotely from Daimler's enterprise operations office in this tech hub.

"Radically changing markets and customer demands are making manufacturers re-look at their technology backbones to seek solutions which enable rapid response at manageable costs and without disruption," Infosys' automotive head in Europe Ruchir Budhwar said.

As part of the deal, Infosys will implement best practices in the data centres and standardise the service delivery.

Though the deal was struck a year ago, the transition was completed early this year and the operations commenced in the first quarter (April-June) of this fiscal (2014-15).

"Our technology solutions allow manufacturing firms like Daimler to react quickly at low-cost and without downtime," Budhwar said.

The deal also testifies to the software vendor's vision to innovate and transform Daimler's facilities.

"The engagement also reflects our ability to manage large infrastructure programmes, reinforce our strategic focus on the automotive sector and expand our presence in the German market," Budhwar added.
