HIMACHAL: Teachers honoured with National and State Awards

Shimla, September 5, 2015: Governor Acharya Devvrat conferred State Awards upon sixteen teachers of the State besides honouring four National Awardees teachers in the State Level Teacher’s Day function held here at Rajbhawan, today. Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh was also present on the occasion.
Congratulating the teachers on the occasion, the Governor said they were role model for the students as well as the society as they were regarded as 'Rashtra Nirmata'. He said that true measure of development of a country or society was 'human development ' and not just infrastructure development. It was due to the rich traditions of teaching as well as wisdom and accomplishments of  'Guru's', that our country was regarded as 'Vishwaguru' for which the credit entirely goes to the teachers.
He said that there was a need to revive such traditions and teachers should set example by maintaining good conduct in order to inspire the students and shaping them as responsible citizens of the country. He said that true meaning of education would be realised when students after completing the education, would prove to be assets for the society and contribute towards the development of the country.
Acharya Devvrat said that Sanskrit was the epitome of our culture and rich literature of the country was available in this language. It should be promoted in order to bring awareness in young generation about our glorious traditional heritage. He suggested that Sanskrit language should be taught upto plus two level in schools which would establish 'Dev Sanskriti' in true sense in the 'Devbhumi'. 
The Governor said the teachers influence the minds of students therefore they could motivate children to stay away from drugs and intoxicants for creating a drugs-free society. He also urged the teachers to educate the students about the cleanliness campaign.
Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh said that teachers were the pillars of the society and they played an important role in educating and shaping the society. They should carry well the responsibilities assigned to them as they were considered as builders of the Nation.
He congratulated the teachers honoured on the occasion and said they would be a source of inspiration for others to achieve the same by devoting themselves and delivering their best in field of education. He added the teachers play an important role in socio-economic development of any Nation.
"Children should not only be educated but should be cultured enough and the onus of shaping their destiny rests upon the teaching fraternity," added the Chief Minister. He said educating young minds for 'Shining India' should be a mission never to be commercialized. The teachers had a much greater accountability towards the betterment and discipline of the society.
The Chief Minister said the State government was committed to provide education to every child of the State and even if there were less than five children in remote and inaccessible areas, the government would open primary schools in such areas.
He said the motive of the State government was to provide quality education to the children at their door-steps and to achieve the same as many as 22 degree colleges were opened and more than 750 schools were either opened or upgraded during the two and a half years in far-flung and remote areas. 
Showering words of praise on the teachers of the State, the Chief Minister said because of their remarkable contribution in the filed of education, Himachal Pradesh today was second most literate State after Kerela having literacy rate of 82.80 percent.
The Governor and the Chief Minister also released a souvenir on the occasion.
Additional Chief Secretary Shri P. C Dhiman briefed about the activities of the education department.
Shri R K Pruthi, Director (Elementary Education) proposed vote of thanks.
A colorful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion by the school and college students.
