Shimla, September 7, 2015: Governor Acharya Devvrat presided over the Founder's Day Function of A.P Goyal Shimla University here today. He awarded merit certificates to twelve students for their outstanding achievements besides honouring eleven teachers for their distinguished services.
The Governor also inaugurated the Digital Library of the University besides launching the Website and Prospectus of A.P Goyal IAS Coaching Academy.
Felicitating the founders, faculty members, staff and students on the occasion, Acharya Devvrat lauded the initiative of starting IAS Coaching Academy which would facilitate the local students to a large extent . He added that such coaching centres for imparting training for competitive examinations like IAS, NDA, PMT etc should be available in districts also so that youth residing in rural and remote areas could get such facility at their doorsteps. It would save effort and resources which they spend when they go to cities outside the state, he added.
The Governor urged the teachers to emerge as an inspiration to students by setting high examples of intellect and learning, practising good behaviour and adopting perfect discipline in their conduct. He said that students follow the examples of teachers automatically as they are role models for them. He urged them to make students aware about the core values of our culture and glorious history in order to instill a sense of patriotism and pride for their country.
Acharya Devvrat said that students should be disciplined and focussed towards their goals and should act as cultural ambassadors of the country by presenting our rich heritage and values for the foreign students of the campus so that they cherish the memories for times to come and take a good impression of the country back home. He said that spirit of fraternity, brotherhood, love and compassion for fellow humans were fundamental values of our country which had always given the message of peace to the world. These should never be forgotten but promoted and practised by the young generation for peace in the nation and world, he added.
Students who were awarded by Acharya Devvrat were Ankita Dogra, Bobina Gurung, Vaishali Ranghar, Madhu, Pawan Sharma, Lokesh Jamwal, Akhil Guleria, Pravin Thapa, Jatin Bansal, Bhawna, Suraj Shrestha, Ravi Ranjan.
Teachers who were honoured were Rahul Berry, Himani Chauhan, Harmeet Bhullar, Shivani Sharma, Sada Haruna, Illona, Jitender Kapoor, Robin Mahajan, Nancy Sawian, Pranshu Sharma, Shalini Bhickta, Shamneesh Sharma.
The Governor also planted a sapling of Deodar in the university campus.
Pro Chancellor, A. P Goyal Shimla University Dr. Ashwini Kumar, welcomed the Governor and detailed about the activities of the University.
Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. B. Ramaswamy detailed out the aims and objectives of A P Goyal IAS Coaching Academy.
Registrar Shri Rajan Sehgal proposed vote of thanks.
Founder of the University, Shri Pramod Goyal, Chancellor, Smt. Kusumlata Goyal, Vice Chancellor, Dr Anand Goyal, Faculty Members, staff and students were present on the occasion.
