GOVERNOR honours NCC cadets and Officers

Chandigarh, February 4, 2013:  Complementing and honouring the young NCC Cadets today at Punjab Raj Bhavan for their performance in the Republic Day Parade and Prime Minister Rally held in New Delhi, the Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil said that there was no doubt that NCC training inculcates the qualities of character, leadership discipline and the spirit of patriotism in cadets and thus makes them responsible citizens. He said that besides discipline, liberty is also equally important. He said balance has to be maintained between the both to get desired results.

Describing youth as a vital part of every society, Patil said today NCC organization is not only confined to impart military training to the youngsters but it also equips the youth to undertake social service activities to serve the humanity in a better way. He said it was possible only due to the relevant training and inspiration given by the NCC organisation that our cadets are able to discharge important duties such as regulating traffic, tele-communication services, civil defence, night patrolling etc. during national crises. Besides this he said during peace times also they are contributing substantially in the field of social services like blood donation, eye donation, cleanliness, tree plantation and adult education.

Patil said, he was happy to know that the Punjab Government has already started 4 new NCC units in the state and given land and funds for the construction of two world class NCC training academies at Malout and Ropar.

Lauding the role of the officers and concerned staff, who worked hard and made these young cadets, capable of taking part in the Republic Day Parade, Patil also congratulated the NCC cadets who have made us proud by winning maximum medals as compared to other states. He said we must make more sincere efforts to show better performance in the next Republic Day Parade also as this region has the tradition of a leadership role and serving as a model of excellence in different spheres of activity. Patil also presented mementos to all the cadets and the NCC officers.

Patil shown keen interest in an exhibition of Aero and Ship modeling made by the Naval and Air Force cadets.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Ravneet Kaur, Principal Secretary, High Education Punjab, Major General, P.S. Mander, Additional Director General NCC, Major Vivek Anand, ADC to Governor, Tarsem Dhariwal, Director of Punjab Instruction (C) Punjab and NCC officers.
