Governor Asks Educational Institutions To Impart Relevant And Required Skill Education To Students

Chandigarh, October 8, 2015: Presiding over National Summit on Higher Education for Skill Development and Employability here today the Governor of Haryana, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh Prof.Kaptan Singh Solanki said that Higher Education has capacity to convert knowledge into a tangible entity that generates wealth which would give us economic stability to address large number of our social and many other problems.
       Expressing these views while presiding over EPSI National Summit, Higher Education for Skill Development and Employability here today, Prof. Solanki said that Punjab is marching ahead in the field of skill development. He said Punjab Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal is the Chairman of the Skill Development Committee Constituted by Government of India. He said future of Nation depends on the quality of education which our educational institutions impart to students. He said Dr. Radha Krishnan, Swami Vivekananda, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi all stressed upon imparting education.
The Governor further said that 21st Century is Century of Development and Technology. He said India is an emerging Nation and 21st Century is Century of India. He said if our educational institutions will not impart relevant and required skill based education then we will not get desired results and fulfill our aim. He said higher education in developed nations has not only gained relevance but also gained emphasis on quality in order to create skilled manpower to convert knowledge into wealth.
       The Governor said inter-linkage between teaching and learning and research and development are extremely important when we talk of higher education. He said teaching and learning gives us skills while research and development gives provides us tools for converting knowledge into wealth. He said need of the hour is to strengthen infrastructure for teaching, learning and Research work. He said we have to convert our educated human power as a proactive and positive catalyst for converting knowledge into wealth to create a better economic nation.
       The Governor further said that skilling India is a prerequisite for our industry to compete in a global market. He said a skilled nation is the backbone for realizing the Make in India vision and transforming India into a manufacturing leader. He said need of the hour is to emphasize on focused approach and looks forward to a fruitful and meaningful skill movement. He said we should join our heads to find out the ways as to how to make youth of India skilled one. He said skilling of youth in various trades would not only enhance their employability but would also contribute to the state and the society.
       Stressing upon the need to bridging the skill gap between industry requirements and academic curricula, Prof. Solanki said that Industry should take a lead in upgrading and harnessing the skills of the youth in all existing trades as well as new trades as per the requirement. He said active collaboration between Industry, Educational institutions and the government in the skilling arena is needed.
