PIT, Mohali commemorates its first foundation day

Mohali/Jalandhar, June 10, 2015- To provide technical education and skill development to students and under various programs of Punjab Government, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University is running various Punjab Institute of Technologies (PITs) in state. Out of these, one of the well-known institutes, PIT Mohali campus has today commemorated its foundation day under the title ‘Open House- 2015’.

IAS Rakesh Verma, Secretary Technical Education and Industrial Training and officiating Vice-Chancellor of the university graced the occasion as Chief Guest. On this occasion, Dr. A.P. Singh- Dean RIC; Dr. Amanpreet Singh- Registrar and Mohanbir Singh, Additional Director, Technical Education and Industrial Training were present.

Throwing light over the courses bring run at Mohali campus, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Director said, “In this PIT, courses related to building industry like B. Architecture, M. Architecture, M. Tech Civil (Transportation) are taught. Hence, this institute is going to be developed as ‘Centre of Excellence in Built Environment’. Looking after the changing time and western culture, students are also made focused towards ‘Green Technology and Indian Architecture’ so that trained professionals from building industries could be made.”

She also highlighted the courses to be run in future like B. Planning, B. Civil, BSc (Building Sciences) and B. Planning etc. She also said that Building Sciences course is especially one of the courses which will fulfill the needs of building industries.

During the event, students shared their views regarding the first year of course. Faculty also discussed about work and demand of market.

Dr. Amanpreet Singh, Registrar asked engineers and architecture students to work on challenge of plastic bag disposal as well as ash of thermal plant disposal. Whereas, Dr. A.P. Singh, Dean RIC stressed on the need of specialization according to regional demand building and suggested to work parallel like past infrastructure.

Concluding the event, IAS Rakesh Verma, Secretary Technical Education and officiating Vice-Chancellor said, “Today, we are moving in the a direction of high growth and the entire world is looking at India due to its large young population. Even the most prestigious and oldest University like Cambridge is keen to come to India because of its talent. I will only say that give your best to build a strong nation. Take challenges. Use this period to develop your skills and have faith in yourself.”
