PAU Entomology Department Bags A Research Project

Ludhiana, June 25, 2015: The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has sanctioned a major research project to the Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) under the scheme "Biotechnology Career Advancement and Re-orientation Programme (Bio-CARe) for Women Scientists.” Dr Geetika Banta, who is presently working as a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Entomology, PAU, has been awarded the project as Principal Investigator. The project, which carries a sum of Rs 38.40 lakh for a period of three years, has been bagged under the mentorship of Dr Vikas Jindal, Assistant Entomologist, PAU.
Dr Balwinder Singh, Director of Research said, “The project aims at characterizing the local strains of entomopathogenic fungus, Beuveria bassiana and improving their efficacy against insect-pests using molecular techniques.” He told that Dr Jindal has the credit of bagging various adhoc projects from DBT, University Grants Commission (UGC), SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board), etc. He was recently awarded an Appreciation Certificate by PAU during the Kisan Mela, held in March 2015.
