Chandigarh, May 17, 2017: A three members Fact Finding Committee comprising Justice J.S.Narang (Retd.), founder Director General (2007-2009), Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Chandigarh as Chairperson, Dr.R.S.Verma, former Director, Central
Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Chandigarh as member and Dr.Paramjit Singh, Professor (Retd.), University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, P.U.and former Registrar, Panjab University, as member visited the site at the
Administrative Building of the Panjab University here today.
The scope of the inquiry is as follows:
(i) To ascertain the cause of the fire.
(ii) Was it accidental or otherwise? What records stand lost? How much of the lost records can be retrieved/reconstructed?
(iii) Does anyone stand to benefit from the lost record(s)? lf yes, can such beneficiaries be identified/enumerated.
(iv) Any other item that may arise or be raised relating to different sections of the Accounts Department or the area involved in fire.
(v) The committee could recommend measures to be put in place that such accidents do not happen in this building as well as other buildings of the University.
Prof. Arun K. Grover, Vice Chancellor, PU released an office order in this regard and enjoined all Departments of the University to respond to the queries/needs of the Committee.
Dr. Muneeshwar Joshi, Deputy Registrar (Estate) shall be the non-member Secretary and the Convener of the meetings of the Committee. Mr. S.C. Tiwari, Deputy Registrar (Accounts) shall also assist the Committee, as the need be.
The Committee is requested to complete its task in about three months duration; if desired necessary, the Committee can seek additional time.
