Energy Conservation Day celebrated
Ludhiana, December 17, 2018: The Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana Local Centre celebrated the Energy Conservation Day at CSIO-CEMRI-CEFMI (erstwhile MERADO) today. Welcoming the guests, Er.Surjit Singh, Honorary Secretary, IE(I), LLC said that energy conservation was the need of the hour. He said that this was one of the eight statutory days being celebrated by the institution. He apprised the audience about the activities of the institution. He said that institution was working towards disseminating technical information for masses. The technical session was delivered by Dr.Arvind Dhingra, Energy Auditor and Faculty at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. He built upon the need of energy conservation and gave an insight into means to conserve energy. He said that we could save upto 20-30% energy in every sector. Since the energy reserves of the world were declining, it becomes pertinent to save energy. A normal light switch was the best energy saving device. We need to install energy saving devices including energy saving lighting schemes. In industry maintaining proper power factor and having right capacity motors would help in saving lot of energy. In the farm sector saving energy through installation of energy efficient pumps was a good option. For street lighting, use of timer switch, light sensors and metering could save lot of energy. Er.R.L.Mahajan, Chairman, IE(I), LLC gave practical tips to save energy in industry. He shared his personal experiences in saving energy for bulk energy consuming industries. Dr.Pardeep Rajan, Principal scientist and Dr.Rajan Kundu, Scientist were honoured for organizing the session.
