Eight persons die in road accident near village Alfu Ke at Ferozepur-Fazilka road

Ferozepur, March 13, 2015: Eight persons were died, seven of them belonging to the village Chhanga Rai Hithar, Guruharsahai, were died in a horrendous accident which took place near Village Alfu Ke at Ferozepur-Fazilka Road early morning today. Besides nine others were severely injured who were referred to the Civil Hospital Ferozepur and Faridkot Medical College.

As per the information available, 17 persons from Guruharsahai region had hired a taxi van to reach village Dhesian near Jalandhar this morning. They were going there to pay homage to their spiritual Guru. Thirteen of them belonged to Chhanga Rai Hithar, while four others had boarded from Village Golu Ke and Pindi. When they reached near village Lakho ke behram, their van was hit by an overloaded truck, which was coming from opposite direction. The impact was so lethal that five persons including two women died on the spot while the other three succumbed to their injuries later. The truck driver however managed to flee from the spot.

Sulakhan Singh, DSP, Guruharsahai said that the two of the injured persons are admitted at the civil hospital Ferozepur while the rest were referred to the Medical College Faridkot for medical assistance. He further said that the flee truck driver has been booked under Sections 304, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC. He said that the police have started the hunt for the absconded truck driver and very soon the driver will be nabbed by the police. “The police will not spare the driver who has done this heinous crime” he further added.    

Those who were died in the accident were identified as Joginder Singh son of Sohan Singh, Dyal Singh son of Khan Singh, Vishambar Singh son of Jeet Singh, Bhago wife of Jangir Singh, Kartaro bibi wife of Kashmir Singh, Santo bibi wife of Des Singh and Durgo bibi wife of Harnek Singh (all residents of Village Chhanga Rai Hithar) and Harmesh Singh, a resident of Village Madekhurd.

Anumeet Hira Sodhi, son of the Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi reached to the Civil Hospital, Ferozepur to console the families while Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy CM, Punjab and Bikram Singh Majithia, Cabinet Minister also conveyed their grief to the departed souls and their families in a message.

Er. DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur who was in Chandigarh today said that appropriate help shall be provided to the families of the victims and all their expenses shall be bear by the State Government.
