EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL: Nepalese Students Get Emotional And On Verge Of Tears At LPU

LPU Committed Rs 10 Lakh To Support Nepal Earthquake Victims

Jalandhar, April 29, 2015: Lovely Professional University has come forward with courage and commitment to support earthquake victims in Nepal. LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal has declared a monetary help of Rs 5 lakh through university funds and another 5 Lakh from students’ initiative ‘Joy of Giving’. This amount will be given as donation of Rs 2 Lakh each to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, UNICEF, and Red Cross Society. The balance Rs 4 Lakh will be given to Nepalese students studying at LPU to spend judiciously as per the situation demands when they will go to their country after final exams.

More than 250 Nepalese & many thousand other students from 30 countries along with Indian students have also joined hands to forward unflinching support to the earthquake victims. Students lit candles & marched silently in a long procession to pay tributes to those killed in the devastating quake, and to sensitize other students to come forward for humane cause. Students carried banners, placards and pictures of havoc caused to make earnest appeal for according liberal support to the affected people. Different students’ organizations at LPU campus have already become active to seek donations of varied needed things from LPU staff members, students & public of nearby areas. 

Sharing the grief of victims, LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal exclaimed with sadness and sympathy: “Our effort is to do whatever we can to help the affected people. I am satisfied to see that the sensitizing spirit which we have instilled among our students for humanity is working efficiently in such disastrous hours. Last time when floods had hit J&K badly, these very students were active in unison to send many truck loads of requisite things to the sufferers. This time, too, our students have devoted themselves to help the needy. They are even sitting online to send messages in cut off areas about exact aftermath of the earthquake amid terrifying rumours. ”

Nepalese students were emotional and on the verge of tears while paying tribute to the thousands of departed souls. All were worried about the well-being and re-habilitation of their countrymen-women, friends and relatives. An MBA student Vineet Shah from Nepal said: “No doubt, all of my family members living in the worst hit Kathmandu district are safe, yet I feel totally wrecked from within by visualizing the present pathetic condition of my country. We want people to contribute whatever they could to meet the needs of those who had lost everything in the quake.” Other Nepalese students including Raghukul Chaudhary from Sunari district & Tapasaya from Pokhra district expressed their gratitude to the fellow students, Government of India, social organizations and other countries those are extending support in the time of great crisis. Another student Arun Acharya thanked Prime Minister Modi for his first and immediate action by ordering Indian forces to meet to the immediate needs occurred through tragedy.
