Chandigarh, November 10, 2015: Noted Scientist and Professor at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, Prof OP Katare would be the first Director of Research Promotion Cell (RPC) of the University. 
Dean International Students and Professor at Department of Public Administration, Prof Ramanjit Kaur Johal would be the Associate Director of RPC. The Vice Chancellor, in anticipation of approval of the PU Syndicate has approved the minutes of the meeting of the committee and the order to this effect has been issued by the University, PU Spokesperson informed.
Prof Rajat Sandhir (Department of Biochemistry), Prof C. Nagaraja Kumar (Department of Physics), Prof Ashutosh Kumar  Department of Political Science) and Dr Anju Suri (Department of History) have been appointed as member of the RPC.
Director RPC, Prof OP Katare has earlier served as the Dean of Pharmaceutical Science and Chairperson of UIPS. He has been granted five patents and filed five more patents at Indian Patents & PCT applications. He has received many awards and honours in the field of research and teaching. He has also received the prestigious DBT Technology National Award from the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in May 2007. 
Prof Katare said that the stress would be given on application based translational research. He said that the University has the great inherent potential in the field of research as the University has both basic and applied fields. The University is already excelling in the field of research but we would try to give further boost in areas through motivational environment, Industry collaborations, Joint Ventures, state of the art infrastructure with due focus on regulatory requirements, he added.
Associate Director of RPC, Prof Ramanjit Kaur Johal is Nehru-Fulbright Visiting Lecturer Fellow of 2011-12. She had worked on International Project under the Shastri Applied Research Programme of the Shastri Indo- Canadian Institute from 2003-06. She was Chairperson of Department of Public Administration from 2010 to 2013. She has been a consultant with the Commonwealth Asia Youth Programme Asia (CYPA) on “Youth and Local Self Governance in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka” in year 2011. / (Sk Vyas, Jalandhar)
