DMCH conducts blood donation camps to mark national voluntary blood donation day

Ludhiana, September 30, 2019: To commemorate ‘National Voluntary Blood Donation Day’ falling on 1st October, Department of Immunohaemtology and Transfusion Medicine, DMCH, Ludhiana, organized thirteen voluntary blood donation camps in various different areas of the state. In a total of 13 voluntary blood donation camps held, 947 units of blood were collected. Besides conducting of voluntary blood donation camps, poster competition was also held to make people aware about importance of voluntary blood donation. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Amarjit Kaur (Professor & Head of Immunohaemtology and Transfusion Medicine Department, DMCH) said that National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is celebrated every year in India to share the need and significance of blood donation in the life of a person, who requires blood for the treatment. Dr Amarjit Kaur said that there are many myths which are prevalent in our society to discourage voluntary blood donation. But in reality, there are not any such issues. Any person between the age of 18 and 65 and weighing more than 45 kgs was eligible for donation, provided he or she is not suffering from any infectious diseases including HCV, Hepatitis B, HIV, syphilis, typhoid and TB. Dr Rajesh Kumar (Professor of Transfusion Medicine) and Dr Sonia Singh (Associate Professor of Blood Transfusion Department, DMCH) said that Department has regular tie-ups with various social organization and NGOs to encourage people to come forward for voluntary blood donation. It is one of the noblest causes, which we human beings can offer to others who require blood transfusion for their treatment. Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH ensures the safe supply of blood through latest ultramodern machines instilled in the department. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri appreciated the contribution of regular voluntary blood donors.
