Ludhiana, February 23, 2013:  In a joint notion of maintaining clean, green and healthier environment in Ludhiana, thousands of city residents came together to take part in ‘Cleanliness Drive’ held at Sarabha Nagar main market here on Saturday.

People who came voluntarily did not even bother for the rain. A few of them were wearing rain coats, other holding colourful umbrellas. And several others were without rain coats and umbrellas. Yes. It was their dedication and commitment for the cause. In-fact, they wanted to do something for their city. They are serious about giving a “clean” look to their city.

A Joint initiative of Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, A2Z Group alongwith Aagaz Charitable Foundation & Maheeda (NGOS) and CityHawk – Ludhiana a web portal on Facebook, the drive was supported by students of College of Home Science, PAU.

Rakesh Verma, Commissioner, MC, Ludhiana also participated actively and appreciated this move.

“Ludhiana has been declared as the most polluted city of the world in a leading magazine few days ago. As we are aware the citizens of Ludhiana are facing many health problems due to pollution all around, it’s high time that we should get together as a family and eradicate this hazard,” said Rakesh Verma.

“The reason why we chose Sarabha Nagar is just because it is the most posh area of Ludhiana is to reach out to the youth as the place is very much their hub. Youngsters these days are very lenient towards this aspect of the society called cleanliness and maintenance. With this initiative our main objective is to educate and motivate them regarding clean and healthy environment and discourage tendency of littering and casual approach towards environment,” he added further.

With targeting youth, the organizers have impacted the real change makers. I therefore on the behalf of whole Sarabha Nagar Main Market Association would like to congratulate the whole team behind this drive and urge the people especially youth to keep and maintain the good work.”

To connect to the youth in virtual world on social network Facebook a web portal ‘City Hawk’ played an important role in creating awareness for the cleanliness drive.

B.P.S Chauhan, Vice President A2Z Waste Management Company said, “It is just the beginning and with this initiative we are confident that every citizen’s attention is drawn towards environment and its maintenance. I feel very privileged to be a part of this drive, with so many reputed organistaions working for a cleaner, healthier and pollution free future. A2Z will always be helping these types of noble events which for sure are going to happen now on a very frequent rate.”

Preeti Kansal from Agaaz Charitable Foundation said, “Everyone should not only understand but withstand too with his/her responsibility. All of us should take a pledge that this drive will not just end today but will become an integral part of our life.
