Demolish illegal constructions in Hyderabad, orders KCR

Hyderabad, June 23 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao Monday directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to deal firmly with illegal constructions.

At a review meeting with the civic officials, he directed them to even demolish the illegal constructions and, if necessary, take the help of police.

He said in case of constructions without permission from GHMC, there was no need for any advance notice to initiate action.

"In case of constructions that have permission but are built with deviation, they may be served notice before initiating action," he said.

KCR, as Chandrasekhar Rao is popularly known, asked the officials to initiate action to protect the Gurukul Trust lands on which illegal constructions have come up. He felt that due to indifference of previous government, the lands were encroached.

He said the Telangana government will ensure that, without compromising, all the lands are restored back to government.

He made it clear that nobody will be spared if even an inch of Gurukul Trust land is under illegal occupation.

KCR said providing water or electricity or any other facility from the government to such buildings will be viewed as illegal.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2012 declared that Gurukul Trust is the absolute owner of the 627-acre prime land at Khanapur near HITEC City, the Information Technology district here.

Several high-rise buildings including some multi-national companies and colonies have come up on the land.
