`DALIT ADHIKAR BACHAO MORCHA’ cancels proposed blocking of traffic on National Highway

Ludhiana, March 26, 2013: Various Dalit leaders have said the state government had assured to accept their long-pending demands following which they have decided to cancel the programme of blocking vehicular traffic on National Highway.

They were addressing the gathering of people assembled under the banner of the `Dalit Adhikar Bachao Morcha’ near Jalandhar Bypass here on Tuesday.

The leaders including Vijay Danav, Ram Chand Tawandi, Ramanjit Lalli, Naresh dhingan, Hansraj Gagat, former municipal councillor Hans Raj and Lachman Dravid said the state government had assured to accept their 11 demands, including ending of backlog of 60,000 posts of SC/ST categories in the state government departments and starting construction of Dr. BR Amedkar Bhawan from April 14 onwards. They said this was not the final victory, as they had to show unity till implementation of these demands.

Further, they said the Morcha would continue leading the Dalit Samaj, adding the state government had increased funds from Rs. 1 crore to Rs.5.50 crore for construction of the proposed Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhawan.
