Dharamshala, June 23, 2015: Himachal Pradesh Central University, has become the 1st university of the country to allow its students to opt Hindi or English as medium of examination, in all the courses being run by this university. This was disclosed by VC of CU of HP Prof. (Dr.) Kuldip Chand Agnihotri.  Addressing the media in Dharamshala in the main office of the university on Tuesday, V C said, “It is the right of the students to appear in Hindi if he/she doesn’t want to appear in English.” He said that the decision of this regard was taken in the recently organized executive council of the university in Dharamshala.
Dr. Agnihotri further informed that MA Sanskrit has also been included in the university courses from the coming session and no tuition fee shall be charged from students  in this faculty .The council have also decided to start certificate course in History of Gujjar’s and also certificate course in Gojri language . VC Kuldeep Agnihotri said: “It is the first university to introduce such courses. The aim is to preserve Gojari and document Gujjar history and culture.” There is no written text on the language spoken by Gujjars. The language is facing extinction.“By introducing a certificate course in Gojari, the university will be able to document the language,” he said.
Agnihotri  said, “As the rich culture of Gujjars and their language is at the verge of extinction. It is necessary to preserve it by introducing such courses.” The Gujjar community, who mainly rare the buffalos,  live and rare their animals in in the areas of Kashmir, Jammu, Chamba and Una of Himachal, Haryana and Rajasthan .
The VC said the university was introducing various other courses, including BSc (Hons) in physics, MA in sociology and MA in Sanskrit from this academic session. V C said, “We will start a Yoga Kendra in the Central University of himachal ,where research and study  shall be carried out on Astang Yoga .”
Sources said that though the University which to start all the desired subjects, it is  facing shortage of space.
Since its establishment five years ago, the university is being run from the temporary building in Shahpur near here.
The land on which the university campus is to come up is yet to be decided. With the Union Ministry for Human Resources rejecting Indrunag site near Dharamshala proposed by the state government, a fresh proposal is learnt to have been sent to Central Government.
Sources said the state government has sent the  proposal to set up the university near Jagrandal village, Chamunda Devi Temple in Dharamshala.
The VC said, “I have written a letter to the state government to speed up the transferring of the land to the University, so that the construction work could be taken up soon.”
Central Government on 20th March 2009 provided for the establishment of Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Kangra District. And it is being run in its temporary campus at Shahpur near here. The University is funded and regulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The University became functional with the assumption of charge by the first Vice Chancellor on 20th January 2010.
