CT University students perform Nukkad Natak ‘Mitti te Maya’
Ludhiana, May 24, 2019: An emotional and family oriented play by the Department of Performing Arts, School of Design and Innovation was staged at CT University. The play titled as ‘Mitti te Maya’ depicted the lost warmth of relationships in families and instead giving importance to money and property. The play was performed by faculty and students from the department itself with the script of Jagdev Dhillon, an eminent writer of Punjab. Hardeep Singh, Assistant Professor, said, “This play was a part of students’ curriculum for practical orientation. We chose such an emotional topic so that the performers and audience could relate themselves with this. Each character scripted was giving away a message. The background music was also live performed by faculty and students of music under the guidance of Jashandeep Singh, Assistant Professor.” The script revolved around a family dispute where an old man is harassed by his own sons for property. Different characters depicted the greed for property and even they end up kidnapping their own father to get his signatures forged by cutting his thumb. The audience appreciated and loved the character of grandson ‘Bindar’ performed by a female student Arshdeep Kaur. The character displayed his innocence and gave importance to family leaving behind the greed for monetary things as his other family members did. While congratulating the department’s hard work, Dr Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor said, “The message was very sensitive and left many with tears in eyes. At CTU, we not only make students the master of theory whereas they are given practical orientation. This play was a practical exposure for students. This will build up their confidence for public performances.”
