Counters to collect relief material for flood hit people to continue

Ludhiana, August 27, 2019: To help the flood hit residents of Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts, District Administration Ludhiana had sent relief material. Keeping in view the enthusiasm of residents of district Ludhiana regarding contribution of relief material, the existing collection counters would continue to operate.
While providing information, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal stated that these counters have been set up at Guru Nanak Stadium (contact number 9915408834) and at District Administrative Complex (contact number 9646501343), where donors can donate ration, clothes, cattle feed and other things of daily use.
He informed that the relief material already sent to Jalandhar and Kapurthala included rice, wheat flour, sugar, black grams, cattle feed, ghee, pulses, potatoes, onions, etc. The Deputy Commissioner stated that earlier also, clothes and other material was sent from Ludhiana for flood hit residents of district Ropar. He informed that cattle feed is to be sent for Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts on August 28.
Pradeep Kumar Agrawal thanked the residents of district Ludhiana for contributing wholeheartedly in the form of relief material as well as in Punjab Chief Minister Relief Fund.

NO MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURAL LOSS IN DISTRICT LUDHIANA DUE TO HEAVY RAINFALL & FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS
Ludhiana, August 27, 2019: Due to heavy rainfall and flood affected areas of district Ludhiana, there has been no major infrastructural loss. Although some roads have been damaged due to rainfall and flooding, but the senior officials of PWD B&R department state that this damage is easily repairable.
Kulwant Singh, Superintending Engineer (SE), PWD B&R, Ludhiana, informed that some roads in the flood affected areas of district Ludhiana have been damaged. He stated that thankfully, there has been no damage to any bridge or building in the district. He informed that the officials of his department have been directed to prepare a detailed report in this regard so that the actual situation regarding damage can be assessed.
Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Punjab Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, said that the flood situation in the district is already under control and that there is no flood scare. He said that the breach in Sutlej river has almost been repaired and that he is keeping a close tab on the ongoing work.
He further said that special funds would be allotted for the repair work of all damaged roads by the Punjab government. He said that the Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government is committed for the welfare of residents and there would be no shortage of funds when it comes to providing relief to the residents.

OFFICIALS DIRECTED TO START WORKING ON ACTION PLAN ISSUED BY PUNJAB GOVT
Ludhiana, August 27, 2019: To ensure the wellbeing of residents and animals as well as to ensure that normalcy returns in flood affected areas, the Punjab government has issued a Post Flood Action Plan. The State government has directed Deputy Commissioners of six districts, including Ludhiana to immediately bring it into action and to implement the same. Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal has already issued directions to the concerned officials to work on the action plan so that relief is provided to the affected people at the earliest.
While providing further information, Pradeep Kumar Agrawal informed that the guidelines explicitly state that Economic, Physical and Mental wellbeing of the affected citizens should be taken care of. He said that the Civil Surgeon have been asked to carry out IEC activities to educate the masses about diseases which usually occur post floods. Personal protection methods like boiling water, proper cooking of food, washing of hands, use of ORS and Zinc tablets personal hygiene and cleanliness of surroundings has to be communicated.
The Civil Surgeon has also been directed to disseminate information on water borne diseases like diarrhoea, vomiting cholera, vector borne diseases like Malaria, Chickengunia and Dengue etc, skin and eye diseases has also to be conveyed. In order to boost the morale of flood victims, counsellors should be roped in and outreach medical camps should be organised for prevention of psychological diseases arising out of acute stress.
He informed that the Water Supply and Sanitation Officers have been directed to provide clean drinking water and regular supply of chlorine tablets. They are to provide potable drinking water to various flood affected villages through water tankers until the restoration of water supply schemes. They are to inspect the toilets facility of the various residents of the flood affected villages and take suitable measures accordingly.
Vaccination of livestock against diseases like H.S and F.M.D would be undertaken by the veterinary teams. They will work in the villages and will provide treatment / vaccination to sick animals. They are to procure feed/fodder/toori from the Animal Husbandry Department and distribute among the livestock owners. Each team will be responsible to undertake disposal of dead animals under their supervision. The Punjab Mandi Board officials have been directed to undertake repair of flood affected Link Roads for making them motorable within a week.
He said that the District Development and Panchayat Officer would ensure distilling of water and repair of streets and drains in the flood affected villages. Maximum Work would be provided to the MGNREGA Job Card Holders of the flood affected areas so that the affected people can earn their earning.
The officials of Food and Civil Supplies department would ensure supply of Ration and water where ever needed. Power supply is to be restored at the earliest. The Deputy Registrar Co-operative Society has been asked to report regarding the flood affected Societies and loss of stock of fertilizer, if any. As a measure to give relief to the flood effected members of the cooperative societies, Department has been asked to work out a proposal to convert certain short term loans of the members into medium term loans and to facilitate member farmers for sowing next Rabi Crop, Fresh Short term loan/ Agriculture inputs be advanced to the concerned farmers.
Agrawal informed that the officials have been directed that compilation of data pertaining dead / drowned animals be done by the relief teams for extending compensation of cattle head that succumbed to floods. Besides, loss to life and property and the estimated crop area damages are to be assessed at the earliest for the distribution of relief/grant.
