CONSTABLE NABBED BY VIGILANCE FOR TAKING BRIBE

Ferozepur, February 21, 2019: Acting swiftly, the sleuths belonging to Vigilance Bureau in Ferozepur have nabbed a police constable who was presently deputed in Excise and Taxation Department. The accused was nabbed red handed while he was taking bribe of Rs.5000 from the complainant Jagga Singh, a resident of Jalalabad in Fazilka district.
Giving details, Hargobind Singh, SSP Vigilance said that a complaint was received from Jagga Singh that constable Kamaljit Singh was putting pressure on him and was threatening him that he will book Jagga in fake illicit liquor recovery case. “The accused had demanded Rs.7000/- from the complainant but finally the deal was settled in Rs.5000. The amount was to be paid in Jalalabad today near the residence of Jagga”, said SSP Vigilance.
The SSP said that following the complaint a case was registered against the erring constable at Vigilance Bureau police Station and a trap was laid to nab Kamaljit. The VB officials said that a raid was conducted and Kamaljit was nabbed red handedly while he was receiving the bribe money along with an accomplice Bakhshish Singh.
The SSP officials said that two government witnesses Gurpreet Singh, SDO from Golewala Drainage Division and Ravinder Kumar working as a Clerk in Eastern Canal Department were present when the VB officials nabbed the accused.
