ORS Week observed at CMC Hospital

Ludhiana, July 31, 2019: Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) week was celebrated from July 25 to 31 at Christian Medical College (CMC).

The purpose of holding this event was to highlight the importance of oral rehydration solution in correction of water and electrolyte loss in our body due to Diarrhoea.

Diarrheal disease which is more prevalent in young children, more so in rainy days, can cause effect on health and nutrition of children.
Oral rehydration solution saves life and can be used by everyone and anyone and is a highly cost effective treatment for Diarrhoea.

On this occasion, a poster making and slogan writing competition was organized based on the theme “ORS-amrut in dehydration” by B.Sc (N) and GNM students in Paediatric OPD, Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana.

The judges for the poster making and slogan writing competition were Dr.Gurmeet Kaur, Unit head, Paediatric Medicine Department, Sanjeet Johnson, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, Dr. Pawan Gupta, President of LAP (Ludhiana Academy of Paediatrics) and Suman Kumar, Associate Professor, College of Nursing.

The winners of poster making competition were 1st -Simar (B.sc (N) 3rd year), 2nd- Kuldeep (GNM 3rd year), 3rd- Radhika kaushik (B.sc(N)3rd year ) and winners of slogan writing competition were 1st Sania Pramod (B.sc(N) 3rd year), 2nd Srishti Singh (B.sc(N) 3rd year) and 3rd Angel paul (B.sc(N) 3rd year). Dr. Gurmeet Kaur spoke on role of ORS.

Dr.Pawan Gupta shared about origin of ORS.

Dr.Richa, Assistant Professor emphasized on avoidance of bottle feeding for prevention of Diarrhoea.

Meenakshi Shekhar, Demonstrator, gave demonstration on hand hygiene and preparation of ORS. Along with this, video assisted teaching and pamphlets were given on prevention of Diarrhea and importance of ORS.

Premlata Prakash, Associate Professor College of Nursing proposed the vote of thanks, especially to Paediatric Medicine Department, Faculty of Paediatric Nursing Department, Nursing students and Ludhiana Academy of Paediatrics for sponsoring the program.

The program activities were highly appreciated by Dr.Inderpreet Sohi, HoD, Paediatric Medicine Department and Dr.Reena Jairus, Principal, College of Nursing, CMC & H, Ludhiana.

The parents and the relatives of children attended the program actively and participated in all the activities.
