CONCERNED over kidnapping, Tewari expresses relief over safe return of industrialist

Ludhiana, July 17, 2013: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari today expressed great relief over the safe return of industrialist Manish Bharara after remaining in the captivity of his abductors.

At the same time the Minister expressed grave concern over such incident where in a person was kidnapped in broad day light without anybody taking notice of it, which he said was clear failure of the law and order machinery. He called for strict vigil saying such incidents not only shake the confidence of people in law and order but also encourage and embolden the criminals.

Tewari said, the state government in general and the police in particular need to learn serious lessons from such incidents. “Thankfully Manish has returned home safe and sound and the culprits have been arrested”, he said, while adding, “but at the same time we need to ask as why should such incidents be allowed to happen at the first instance”.

He said, this incident had created a sense of fear and insecurity among the general public in Ludhiana. “It is the responsibility of the government and the police not to let such incidents become a routine”, he warned while adding, “earlier vehicles were snatched at gunpoint and now people are being abducted with such an ease”.

The minister observed, if right lessons had been learnt at the right time and right and strict measures taken the abductors would not have got the courage to first kidnap the man, then demand the ransom and walk away with the money, which though was recovered subsequently.
