COMMISSIONER OF POLICE LUDHIANA LAUNCHES “ELDERS CONNECT” PROGRAMME
**POLICE ASSISTANCE TO BE PROVIDED TO ELDERLY PEOPLE LIVING ALONE & THEIR PROBLEMS WILL BE RESOLVED: DR SUKHCHAIN SINGH GILL **POLICE OFFICIALS INTERACT WITH MORE THAN 500 ELDERLY PEOPLE IN THEIR HOUSES TODAY Ludhiana, January 14, 2019: As a part of the ongoing Police Week by the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate, an “Elderly Connect” programme was launched by Commissioner of Police Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill in the presence of senior police officers, at Police Lines, here today. While speaking to media persons after the launch of this “Elderly Programme”, Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill stated that it has been observed that some elderly people feel lonely in the present scenario as their children are settled abroad. And sometimes, due to fast pace of life, some children don’t have the time to look after their parents. He said that the “Elderly Connect” programme would focus on the welfare of elderly people. While elaborating on this programme, Dr Gill said that this is an initiative under the Saanjh (Community Policing) project so that the police can connect with the elderly people. He said that all senior officials would visit the elderly people residing in their respective areas at least once a month. He said that the police officials would not only visit them, but would also interact with them so that their problems, if any, can be resolved on priority basis. He said that the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate would also make efforts to ensure that all issues related to the health and security of elderly people can also be checked and suitable solutions are found. He said that the police officials have been directed to treat the elderly people as their own family members so that a strong bond can be formed. He said that the elderly residing alone have been kept in A-category, an elderly couple in B-category and those living with their families in C-category. He said that today, the police officials visited more than 500 such elderly people and interacted with them. The Ludhiana Police Commissionerate is organising Police Week from January 13-19, 2019, in which several social activities in different parts of the city would be organised. Yesterday, a cleanliness drive in and around the police stations and police colonies was organised and later, the festival of Lohri was celebrated at Police Lines, here. On January 15, awareness campaign regarding ways to tackle Economic Offences and issues related to immigration would be organised in prominent markets and the same day, sports competitions of families of police personnel would be organised and on January 16, Inter Zone Volleyball competitions would be organised. On January 17, an awareness seminar on topics related to online fraud, social media fraud and ATM fraud for families of police personnel would be organised, while on January 18, a cricket match between gazetted officers and SHOs would be organised and on a cultural function would be organised at 5 pm on January 19, and this event would be attended by families of all police officials, followed by dinner. Prominent among those present during today’s launch included DCP’s Mr Ashwani Kumar and Mr Gagan Ajit Singh, ADCP’s Mr Surinder Lamba, Mr Deepak Pareek, Mr Sukhpal Singh Brar, besides several others.
