CME on Body Contouring & Advances in Cosmetic Surgery

Ludhiana, March 26, 2015: Department of Plastic Surgery at DMCH, Ludhiana today organised a CME on Body Contouring & Advances in Cosmetic Surgery. Dr Kulwant S Bhangoo from USA was the guest speaker during the CME.  According to Dr Bhangoo, Body contouring is a procedure that alters the shape of different parts of the body and refers to a series of procedures that eliminate or reduce excess skin and fat that remains in body after individuals loose a significant amount of weight. Such fat remains in a variety of places including the torso, upper arms, chest, and thighs. In his lecture, Dr Bhangoo said that Breast augmentation or breast implant surgery is considered as the major cosmetic surgery.

Studies have shown that breast implants help in boosting self-esteem and body image of women. He also stressed on the critical need for careful screening by doctors and self-awareness among women, before undergoing breast implant surgery.

Recent progress in plastic surgery has been rapid and many new techniques have been developed.

The latest in body contouring technologies are non-invasive procedures that require no surgery, little hospitalization and no surgical scars. To change the ageing face into a younger looking face, many cosmetic surgery procedures can be undertaken in the form of lifting eye brows, taking care of baggy eye lids, dermal fat graft and frown lines on the forehead and fat injection for facial rejuvenation.

Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta gave the memento to the guest speaker. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri appreciated the contribution of Dr Bangoo in popularising the concept of Body Contouring. Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery) gave an introductory lecture and stressed on the need for undergoing special cosmetic surgery for all those who want to look young and improve their esthetic appearance.
