Hand Hygiene Week Observed by Fortis Hospital

Ludhiana, May 12, 2015: Fortis hospital Ludhiana observed hand hygiene day on the occasion of Global Hand hygiene day which falls on 5th May each year. On this occasion a hand hygiene relay was conducted in the hospital reception area. Vivan Singh Gill FD started the relay by giving hand rub to Dr Seema Singhal, infection control officer.

Giving more information Dr.Seema Singhal said, “The theme emphasizes the importance of hand hygiene action in demonstrating overall quality of care within health-care facilities. This year WHO is calling for healthcare facilities to “Take this opportunity to show your colleagues, your country and the world what a strong quality indicator of care hand hygiene is” and to “Take the opportunity to commemorate all that has happened around the world over these last 10 years. Hand hygiene is also important to prevent spread of antimicrobial resistance”.

131 participant including Dr Ankush Mehta, Medical Superintendent, Dr Harpreet Brar, Admin Head , Dr Manvi Narang, Quality Head,  Consultants, Nurses, GDA, Housekeeping Staff and Patient attendants observed hand hygiene with alcohol based hand rub

Speaking on the occasion Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital said, “Hand hygiene is the simplest, easiest and cheapest method to prevent hospital acquired infections and one can prevent hospital acquired infections by observing hand hygiene at the point of patient care.

Giving information regarding the hygiene week Dr.Harpreet Brar, Admin Head said, “Fortis Hospital celebrated this week as hand hygiene week by conducting infection prevention activities throughout the week.”
