Cleft Week Celebration at DMCH

Ludhiana, December 5, 2016: Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery will be celebrating ‘Cleft Awareness Week’ from 5th to 10th December, 2016. During the week, children with cleft lip and palate would be given free consultation and corrective surgery will be done absolutely free of cost at DMC & Hospital by the team of Plastic Surgeons namely Dr Sanjeev Uppal, HOD, Dr Rajinder Mittal, Dr Ramneesh Garg and Dr Sheerin Shah.
According to Dr Uppal , this awareness week would be organized with the support of Smile Train . Under this project, children with cleft lip or palate are being screened and are offered free of cost Cleft Surgeries. On 8th December, Free Check Up & Awareness Camp will be held in Rural Health Centre of DMCH at Pohir followed by similar awareness camp on 9th December at Sandhu Hospital, Nawanshahar. 507 children have been treated FREE so far in DMCH for cleft surgeries under the Smile Train project ,Dr Uppal added. Most clefts could be completely corrected with a simple surgical procedure that could take as little as 45 minutes. There were few procedures that could change a child’s life as quickly and as dramatically as cleft surgery done.
According to the Hon’ble Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta DMCH with the support of Smile Train will undertake to achieve a shared vision of cleft free Punjab state. He released the promotional posters , wall calendars and desk calendars on this occasion , propagating the FREE CLEFT OPERATIONS being done by the team of expert plastic surgeons of DMC & Hospital . Principal Dr Sandeep Puri appreciated efforts of the Plastic & Reconstructive Department for undertaking such a noble project and bringing back smiles back to the affected children .
