Ludhiana, July 6, 2016: Skin and Hair awareness programme was organised by Fortis Hospital Ludhiana. More than 75 patients and their relatives attended the programme. Programme was held under the supervision of Mr.Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director Fortis Hospital Ludhiana. Programme was started with “Aardas” (Prayer). The whole session was followed by question-answer round on various scenarios of daily life.

Giving information, Dr. Meenakshi Jain, Consultant, Dermatology Department, said that after a hot and sweaty summer, the monsoon comes as a relief but the humid and damp weather takes a toll on the skin and hairs. Experts advise how small changes in the skin care routine during the season can keep the skin glowing and hairs shiny.
Infections are on the rise in hot & humid weather as it gives favorable environment to the pathogens to grow. There can be stomach problems like indigestion, dysentery, and typhoid or there can be respiratory problems like common cold, cough and asthma and also skin problems like eczema, rashes, prickly heat, boils and pimples. The season tends to infect the air, atmosphere, surroundings food and drinks that are the basic necessities for a person to live. Skin and hair also cannot be left behind from the harsh treatment of the moist humid rainy weather.

Oily Skin: Skin becomes oily in the humid weather. This leads to eruption of pimples on the face, upper arms, upper chest & back. To treat oily skin one needs to remove excess oil by cleansing it twice or thrice a day. Avoid moisturising creams or lotions. Use gel based products. Scrub your face on a regular basis. This will help unclog the pores and remove the layer of dead cells from your skin," Moonsoon also brings skin infections: Fungal and bacterial infections are common during rainy season. Moist and damp skin leads to these infections. Boils may occur in patients who either sweat a lot or are in a habit of having oil massages. So, do avoid them. Fungal infections like ring worms or Pitryiasis versicolor are also on the rise in this weather. "Switch to cotton clothes as they allow your body to breathe. Do take a shower after workouts.

To circumvent allergies from mosquito bites, wear full-sleeved clothes and use mosquito repellent creams.

Hairs: Hairs during rainy season becomes frizzy. Hair fall also increases during this season. So, proper hair care is a must. Proper conditioning should be done. Application of oil should be limited to just one hour before head wash.
We all love the good things that monsoon brings, be it the cloudy weather, the cool breeze gently caressing you, the rain drops or the hot tea. But, don’t just get lost in this ‘dreamy’ picture, but also devote your attention towards the downside of this humid weather. Come rains, keep your skin flawless by figuring out what your skin needs and follow your skin care regime religiously.

Here are a few tips to protect your skin from the weather`s harshness:
? Use anti-bacterial soaps, talcum powders and face washes to keep your skin dry.
? Avoid eating spicy food because it raises body temperature which leads to skin irritation, allergies and diseases.
? Avoid wearing sweaty clothes for long. Wear loose cotton clothes.
? Drink more water, at least 7-8 glasses during this season to keep the body hydrated.
? Always use a good sunscreen with a high SPF factor & that too according to your skin type even when it is cloudy, to protect your skin from harmful rays of the sun.
