CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK (12 to 19 January 2018) BY NSS, PANJAB UNIVERSITY

Chandigarh, January 17, 2018: During the celebrations of the National Youth Week (12 to 19 January 2018) of NSS Panjab University, Chandigarh this famous saying “Sharing is Caring” stands true for these group of NSS volunteers lead by NSS Programme Officer Gaurav Gaur said Navdeep Sharma, NSS, Programme Coordinator, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The reason behind is obvious because of their extra efforts made for the ordinary people made all of them extra ordinary in themselves. These people have specially implemented the motto of NSS “Not Me But You” in the real sense.

On one hand we all are busy in our routine household chores but these volunteers namely Arshpreet Kaur Gill, Atul Padda and Tarun Sharma with their mentor Gaurav Gaur took out time to spend some time with construction workers and their children during this week. Most of the construction workers working at different places of Panjab University campuses of sector 14 and 25 were provided with free ration which included rice, sugar, salt, jaggery, mustard oil raw vegetables, fruits and sweets for the children. All these efforts were made by the team of volunteers, who were keenly observing these workers from past few days. Not only this but few of them were offered with new clothes and shawls and rest of the people were provided with other used woollens collected from various other people.

During the same week, On 12 January 2018, on National Youth Day and Lohri was celebrated by honouring fourteen employees maintaining the cleanliness of Panjab University from Department of Horticulture, Panjab University, Chandigarh. All these workers were presented with new Shawls (Lohis) by the NSS volunteers for doing excellent work in the Panjab University campus. Navdeep Sharma, NSS, Programme Coordinator with NSS Programme Officers namely Dr Anupreet Mavi, Dr Manjushri Sharma and Gaurav Gaur graced the occasion. While addressing the audience, Navdeep Sharma shared the importance of celebrating Youth Day with youngsters. She said youth can change anything, if they wish to do. Youth can undertake any project and do wonders if their energy can be channelized in a positive manner. She shared the various teachings of Swami Vivekananda for young generation and we all should have role models like Swami ji to have a successful and optimistic life. These celebrations will go further through-out the year and should not end here.
