Bulla’s 5th Annual Talent Show- A leadership development tool for next generation
“We, The Bulla, had a vision to bring our university level youth festivals to Canadian stage and we seem to be fulfilling it” boasted Diljeetpal Brar, aka Bai ji, Director of ‘Bulla Arts International’ at their 5th Annual talent show on July 6th held at Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre, Winnipeg. In this show, over 300 artists performed folk dances, folk songs and theatrical items in morning and evening sessions. Attendees enjoyed all the performances with claps, hoots and whistles. Out of these 300 over 40 kids performed on stage for the first time. ‘Bhand’ item by Bulla’s theatre coach Harjeet Ladhar and Amritpal Kang was very much appreciated by the audience. Items performed in this show were versatile and applauded by people. Punjabi skits, Sammi, Jhoomer, Dandaas, Bhangra and Giddha were some of much admired items in this show. All the participating teams were trained by Bulla’s very talented instructors Balwinder Gill, Amritpal Kang, Harjeet Ladhar, Raman Sidhu and Aman Kaur. It was their hard work and dedication which showed during the show in the form of great presentation of art. Bulla’s 5th talent show was not just a showcase of the arts, but a very well organized completion, where all the teams tried their best to win the grand champion cup. Judges for this competition were Randeep Chahal Kandhola (Edmonton), Birinderjit Singh (Detroit) and Navpreet Singh (Regina). They have excelled in the field of folk dances, theatre and folk songs in the past and are very experienced in the judgement process as well. Four Grand Champions in four categories were Phul Kalian CoEd, Swera Queens, Fulkari Queens & Nakhra Queens. Its noteworthy that instructor for all these teams was Aman Kaur. Best dancers in different folk dance items were Uday Singh Bhatti, Avanya Dang, Paramroop Singh Bhogal, Mannat Kaur Sidhu, Yuvraj Singh Kang, Muskan Kaur Brar, Fateh Singh Brar and Sehgeet Kaur Thind. Bulla Leadership Awards were presented to Gurcharan Singh Brar, Fatehdeep Singh Brar and Harjeet Singh Ladhar in the fields of education, sports and arts respectively. At the end, Bai ji thanked audience, volunteers and sponsors who made this event successful. Bulla Leadership awards were sponsored by McPhillips Toyota, MaxPro Real Estate and Clay Oven Restaurant. NDP Manitoba leader Wab Kinew and Greg McPharlane, NDP candidate from The McPhillips, made special appearance to enjoy the show. Tanvir Grewal did excellent job photographing the event.
