Ludhiana, November 1, 2016: Keeping their print media syllabus in mind, the first year students of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, PCTE has designed and released their first monthly newsletter titled ‘VOP Times- Voice of PCTE’ in both print and online editions. It’s the four page monthly newsletter that focuses on the coverage of Festaweek 2016- a weeklong annual cultural festival which has ended lately in the campus.

During the festival, in-charge of the department Assistant Professor Kanwarpreet Singh assigned the duties to various students in groups to cover a couple of main events that took place in the festival. From the news of overall trophy to all other events like Nukkad Natak, debate, Indian group dance, fashion show etc. were covered by the students. Telling about the experience, one of the student editors of the newsletter, Preity Sabharwal said, “Being a fresher in the field of journalism, it has remained a challenging task for all of us to gather news of the events, talking to the concerned people, writing the news story and editing. It was like we were really covering the news for a daily newspaper. We will continue the same every month.”

The pages are designed by a student named Devam Sood. On designing a newsletter for the first time he shared, “Well, I already knew about the working of various designing softwares but designing a newsletter was the first time experience. With the thorough guidance of faculty, I completed the pages in three days. The copies were proof-read and again certain and final changes were made. I am looking forward to the similar experiences.”

All the students completed their tasks of filing different stories in groups related to the event. Dr. Gautam Bansal, Unit Head appreciated the efforts of the students and further motivated them to keep on putting theoretical knowledge into practical use.

Dr. KNS Kang, Director General said, “This is the very first thing that any journalism student would do. The students have gained a lot of experience in bringing out this first newsletter of the campus. As we’re living in the digital era, we further encouraged them by releasing it online on our website and sharing it on social media as well as on the emails of pass out and current students.”
