Ferozepur, September 26, 2014: The district administration has launched a massive crackdown on auto rickshaws that violate permit restrictions, plying without valid registration and driving licences and confiscated certain autos.

The Auto Rickshaw Drivers in Ferozepur today raised the bugle against Charandeep Singh, District Transport Officer and blamed him for being partial. All the Auto Rickshaw Drivers sat on a Dharna in front of DC Office and raised slogans against the DTO. They also blocked the road for more than one hour.

The members of Azaad Rickshaw Union were annoyed over the fact that the DTO was daunting them for not having proper papers and license. They were also furious over DTO because he had challaned a few auto rickshaw drivers and detained their vehicles some days ago.

Parshottam Chaudhary, President of the Union said on this occasion that lot of poor people belonging to this border region earn their bread and butter by driving auto rickshaw. How can administration be so cruel and snatch their living from them. He demanded that no fine should be imposed on these poor auto rickshaw drivers. He also demanded ban on entry of private buses in the city. He also blamed the administration and said that DTO is working under political pressure to provide benefit to the private bus operators.

However, Sandip Singh Gera, after some arguments, persuaded the union leaders to remove the Dharna. He assured them that all their genuine demands will be met soon.
