Punjab witnesses massive response in voter mela, more than 2 lac apply for fresh votes

Chandigarh, March 10, 2014: The novel concept of ECI of enrolling left out eligible voters including first time young voters received unprecedented response with more than two lac people applying for enrolment as voters in a single day.
According to Punjab CEO Mr. VK Singh, it was for the first time that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) sat in their 22018 polling booths displaying their latest voter lists and receiving enrolment as well as transfer forms from left out voters. District Ludhiana witnessed maximum response with 30217 people applying for votes in a single day. He further said that Amritsar District (22857), Hoshiarpur (13221), Patiala (11961) Jalandhar (11623),SAS Nagar (11024), Gurdasur (10901), Bathinda (10283) Taran Taran (9428), Sangrur (9128) and Mukatsar  (7295) were the other major district receiving huge response during this campaign. It may be mentioned here that Moga (6127), Roopnagar (6542), Kapurthala (5318), Pathankot (3289), Nawashahar (4623), Fatehgarh Sahib (4524), Ferozpur (4480), Fazilka (4815), Faridkot (4272), Mansa (4914) and Barnala (3174) also received fresh applications for enrolment as voters.
The CEO has thanked the people of state for their overwhelming response.
