Ludhiana, February 12, 2019: The two day sports extravaganza of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana concluded today. The two day event which saw enthusiastic participation by over 1500 athletes who vied for honors in more than 25 track and field events both for boys and girls. The concluding function was presided over by S.Jagdev Singh Sidhu, international athlete who has represented India in Asian Games, 1954 &1958 & world Olympic Games,1956. He was gold medalist in Police Olympic Games. Speaking on the occasion the octogenarian athlete lamented that the state of Punjab which was at the forefront of national sports scene is now lagging behind. He exhorted the youth to shun drugs and take up sports as a way of life. The college principal, Dr. Sehijpal Singh while applauding the efforts of athletes and conduct officials said that college has given number of national and international players to the nation- the latest addition being Harshveer Singh a student of 3rd year who represented India in roller skating event in recently concluded Asian Games.

In today’s events both students and staff participated with full vigor. The events featured were 4x400m relay race for boys and girls, 100m finals, tug of war, staff relay race for men and women faculty, class IV staff 100m sprint. Vinod Kumar, Third Year, Mech. Engg. student was adjudged as BEST MALE ATHLETE and GurvinderKaur, Final year, CSE as BEST FEMALE ATHLETE. The overall trophy was won by Mech. Engg. for Boys and Computer Science & Engg. for Girls.
