Annual Convocation at SCD Govt College

Ludhiana, April 20, 2015: ‘Only hard work, courage and passion can lead to success’, ‘girls number is much more than boys in receiving degrees shows girls are moving ahead in education, and progress of women is progress of nation’ speaks Education Minister in his Convocation Address. He appreciated the achievements of the students of the college in academic, sports, cultural, and NCC/ NSS and other fields.

The Annual Convocation of the pass out batch session 2013-14 was held in the Sahir Auditorium at the SCD Govt. College Ludhiana. 800 students of MA M Com, MSc., M Com(Business Innovation and BA/ BSc/ BCom And PGDCA were awarded degrees.

Surjit Singh Rakhra, Cabinet Minister, Higher Education and Languages, and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Ranjeet Singh Dhillon, MLA, Ludhiana, was the guest of honour. The Minister was accorded a very warm welcome by the Principal and Staff of the College. He was also presented with the NCC Guard of Honour.

The academic procession lead by Chief Guest and Guest of Honour and College Principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu.

The function started with reverential rendition of the college Shabd hymns and ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu accorded a warm welcome to the guests and read the annual report. Applauding star studded alumni he named Gen. Raina, Ex CBI Director Joginder Singh, and Ex DGP KPS Gill, Ex Election Commissioner of India Dr. Manohar Singh Gill, His Excelency NN Vohra , Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mahesh Inder Singh Garewal, Advisor to CM Punjab, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister Punjab, Prem Dhawan, the famous Lyricist of ‘mera rang de basanti chola’ are just few names out of hundreds.

As many as 359 graduate and 404 post graduate students were conferred the degrees.  Role of Honour was awarded to Dimpal, Ashima, Nancy Batra( MA Hindi), Gurwinderpal kaur, Sandeep Kaur, Shivani Gupta, Abha Vohra, Anu Dua, Kirandeep Kaur Virdi, Jagatjot Singh Kareer and Priyam Saxena.  College Colour was awarded to Vandna Singh, MSc IT, GagaBatra MSc Maths , Inderpreet Kaur M Com ( Business Innovation) , Ishit Sehgal BSc 2nd year.  17 students got Special Awards – Prof RL Aggarwal Gold Medal ( Randeep Kaur, BSc 3rd), Abhye Oswal Gold Medal ( Ajay Kumar, B Com 3rd), Dr sk Vashisht memorial gold medal ( Dimpal, and gurpreet Kaur (MA Hindi),   Dharam singh gill memorial trophy and cash award ( Baldeep Kaur, MA English).
