21-Day Summer School Begins At PAU

Ludhiana, July 8, 2015: A 21-day summer school on “Entrepreneurship Development Programme” began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The course has been organized by the Department of Extension Education, PAU. A total of 60 participants including Professors, Associate and Assistant Professors, senior most extension specialists from Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab are participating in this programme.
In her remarks, the Chief Guest, Dr Neelam Grewal, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, PAU, said, “In the near future, every farmer will have to consider agriculture as a commercial enterprise.” She stressed on maintaining proper record of farm expenses. Besides, she emphasized on more practical orientation of the participants by arranging their visits to the farmers’ companies including small as well as large entrepreneurs. She also congratulated the department for organizing this course.
The Guest of Honour, Dr (Mrs) R. K. Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, while making call for second green revolution in the country, said, “This should aim at increasing the income of farmers which is possible only through entrepreneurship development.” In addition to equipping the farmers with the latest farm technologies, there is also a need to promote agro-processing among them, she added.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Dr R.K. Kalra, Professor- cum-Head, Extension Education said, “Entrepreneurship development is need of the hour as our Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi had also emphasized on the skill development of youth.” In this context, this programme will apprise the participants of skill development among the farmers and ultimately, turning them into successful entrepreneurs. She also presented an overview of the summer school programme.
Later, Dr J.S. Bhalla, Professor of Extension Education, while proposing the vote of thanks, informed that this training course would conclude on July 28.
